NWP500 Heat Pump Water Heater

NWP500-65 FAQs

A heat pump water heater extracts heat from the surrounding air to warm the water inside the tank. This method is significantly more efficient than traditional electric resistance water heaters.

Commonly called heat pump water heater, a hybrid water heater uses a heat pump to extract heat from the surrounding air and transfer it to the water in the tank. Hybrid/heat pump water heaters also include a standard electric water heater as a backup for times of high demand, to shorten recovery time.

Our hybrid heat pump/electric water heater will work in any climate, since they are installed indoors and maximum efficiency requires a surrounding air temperature at or above 40°F. Should surrounding air temperature drop below 40F, High Demand or Electric only mode is recommended

As a heat pump water heater operates, the air passing over the evaporator coil will experience a temperature drop - similar to that of a small air conditioner. But the impact on your basement temperature isn’t as great as you might think. The temperature might drop by a couple degrees during the heat pump cycle, but it will return to normal when the cycle is over. Overall air cooling will depend on hot water usage, water heater mode (whether it’s heat pump only, hybrid, or electric only), basement size, and insulation. Cooling and dehumidification from the heat pump cycle can be beneficial in warmer months.

Yes, but proper ventilation is required. The NWP500 Series requires at least 450 cubic feet of space for unvented installations, or ducting for enclosed spaces
